A Speech Understanding and Dialog System with a Homogeneous Linguistic Knowledge Base
نویسندگان
چکیده
Absfract-This article presents the speech understanding and dialog system EVAR. All levels of linguistic knowledge are used both to control the analysis process and for the interpretation of an utterance. All kinds of knowledge are integrated in a homogeneous knowledge base. The control algorithm used for the analysis is defined within the representation scheme and does not depend on the application. One of the aims of EVAR is to develop a system structure where linguistic and nonlinguistic expectations could be used not only for the interpretation but also as predictions for the recognition process.

In the automotive environment, intuitive in-car speech interfaces are crucial in order to reduce driver distraction. The design of an intuitive speech interface poses a great challenge to the speech recognition and natural language understanding component of a speech dialog system since human language allows speakers to create an infinite number of sentences. In this paper, a linguistic grammar...

Conversational interfaces have received much attention as a promising natural communication channel between humans and computers. A typical conversational interface consists of three major systems: speech understanding, dialog management and spoken language generation. In such a conversational interface, speech recognition as the front-end of speech understanding remains to be one of the fundam...

We rst describe EVAR, a state{of{the{art speech understanding and dialog system which application domain is train time table information retrieval. The system | as others | is devided into two main components: a speech recognizer based on hidden Markov models (a statistical approach) and a knowledge-based linguistic component developed in a semantic network environment. When switching to a new ...
